Finnsiirto Oy and Frendy are moving the company’s IT environment toward the modern cloud

Finnsiirto Oy does not have its own IT department, and IT tasks are handled alongside other responsibilities by Development Director Kimmo Tiittanen.

When IT is not the organisation’s core expertise, the role of a partner becomes crucial — both for smooth everyday operations and for long‑term IT development. As Finnsiirto’s IT partner, Frendy supports daily work and helps develop IT with a business‑driven approach.

“Frendy is a partner that makes everyday work easier. When you don’t have your own IT team, it’s important to have someone alongside you who truly understands your environment. We can focus on our core business, knowing that our IT is in the hands of professionals,” Tiittanen says.

Sopiva IT ensures that the IT environment stays up to date

Frendy’s Sopiva IT maintenance and support model is an excellent fit for companies without an in‑house IT department. Frendy is responsible for maintaining Finnsiirto’s IT environment for a fixed monthly fee. Support services such as incident management, troubleshooting, documentation and user support are billed based on the work performed.

“The Sopiva IT model has worked extremely well for us because it brings predictability and clarifies the overall picture. And Frendy’s support is always easily accessible,” Tiittanen says.

Frendy has access to — and visibility into — the IT environment, ensuring that automated maintenance tasks are carried out and that configurations follow Frendy’s best practices. In addition, Frendy monitors the IT environment and receives alerts. Alerts come from several different sources, such as the central management system, security solutions, or system‑specific monitoring tools.

Microsoft SharePoint intranet supports growth and communication

Finnsiirto recently completed a merger, which increased the need for a shared digital tool. The company needed a solution that would make information management easier and improve internal communication across different locations.

Microsoft SharePoint was selected as the solution. A Frendy specialist built the technical foundation and structure, on top of which Finnsiirto’s own team produces the content and finalises the user interface. The collaboration progressed smoothly and with close interaction.

The new intranet will serve a wide group of users — improving information discoverability, communication and the flow of everyday work.

The cloud migration is advancing according to plan

Regular service meetings included in Finnsiirto’s Sopiva IT partnership — along with a low threshold for contacting support — ensure that Finnsiirto’s IT environment develops consistently and in line with business needs.

“Our goal is a modern, cloud‑based IT environment, and our cloud journey is already well underway: data has been migrated from the server to the cloud, network devices have been updated and cybersecurity has been strengthened,” Tiittanen says.

Moving data to the cloud also opened the door for Finnsiirto to adopt Apple devices, and the company now uses Windows and Apple devices side by side. Devices and accessories are purchased from the FrendyShop online store, where ready‑made recommendation models make it easy to choose the right products. Device financing adds further flexibility to acquisitions.

Looking to the future

Finnsiirto’s long‑term plan is to continue modernising its IT environment, make broader use of Microsoft’s tools and further strengthen the management of Apple devices.

Concrete examples of upcoming development projects include phasing out the physical AD server and moving to Entra ID‑based identity management. The company will also move to Microsoft 365 Business Premium licences as part of its cloud journey. In addition to other features, Business Premium provides enhanced security tools and enables comprehensive cybersecurity development with the Defender product suite.
